Not referred to the works of this post, generally I’m a fan of Rembrandt, Cézanne, Matisse, Hopper, Munch, Hockney…and I’m sure I’m skipping over some many more. Wow Beth, I like so much your reflection, is excellent. I love its depth. But I’m sorry because I have no more information about what happened to the sketched girl in relation with Lautrec. Some other artists some times depicts someone ill on a bed. It is so rare that Lautrec captured a dramatic scene. But here neither not seems any scene about motifs of frivolity, fun or erotism that we find so often in this artist. But I believe she could be a member of his family accidentaly portrayed. Since long centuries ago, (Rembrandt lived on 17th), the leisure of some people (and not always women) was to lean on a window or a balcony, and after they whispered about what they saw or often what they imagined. Don’t laugh dear, sometimes is a dangerous specie. Get rid of them! Thanks a million for your comment. 😀

Are you kidding, I don’t need to go as far as Rembrandt’s time… they were exactly like that in Italy in the ’80s when I lived there! They haven’t changed one bit 🙂 And yes they were nasty pieces of work, the old “darlings”. They happily ruined lives.

Oh dear, I should to guess this drawing would be your favourite because in some way it depicts the show that some people must to follow to survive, something about I think you worry. Lovely series – I enjoyed these very much, I hadn’t heard of Petrov-Vodkin before! Munch’s painting reminded me go Hoppers Diners! 🙂

Oh my friend, I knew Petrov-Vodkin but not since much time ago. We all are learning something new. I like you have evoked ‘Hoppers Diners’ with this work of Munch. So true, the both artists capture some feeling. Hopper about solitude, with a technique more sculptural and Munch more flat with more gestual strokes. I looked up Petrov-Vodkin on wiki + google, very interesting and unusual! You’re right about Hopper and Munch, I guess I thought of Diners because of the bar and the relaxed feel, but also the palette of reds and orange, and the rounded bar end. Munch is someone I’d like to look into further – an artist here (UK) who has been very popular is L S Lowry, like Hopper & Munch, the plot thickens the more you see.

Dear Francesca, I’m glad to receive another of your comments. I see you like to bet for the purposeful changes. You know that the both works you like, pertain of two tendencies almost paralels in time, when 19th century are going to the 20th century. In Russia the arte does great development with the geometrical shapes as a basis, and in Italy the futurism is so worried about how to depict movement.
