Cactus Cones for Hurricane Harvey for social media

cactus cones for social mediaAs an artist, I do a lot of art for art’s sake. Sometimes for therapy sake. And sometimes for friends and family. But to make something with a larger purpose is always something I want to do.

It started with a challenge – a mixed media “Cactus Cones” piece I did for #biancasartchallenge, which is based on the photo below of pastel colored cactus. The rules were any theme, any media, to be creative as possible using the photo as inspiration.

Then, I had an idea! Why not make this design available in my Society6 Shop and all proceeds – all sales – for this design will go to Hurricane Harvey through a donation made to the American Red Cross. I had already made a personal donation, rather small, and wanted to give more.

Now I can, and you can help!

Together, we can do something sweet to…

Wonky Quadrilaterals

HI SISTERS! LET’S SKETCH ON 3 D. YOUR OWN ABSTRACT MOTIFS CAN BE SO WONDERFUL LIKE THESE MADE BY PAULA. HAVE A NICE WEDNESDAY!

Playful Bookbinding and Paper Works

Last summer I got caught up with a shape that Martin Holtham started looking at after seeing this vase in a furniture store.

from this fun twitter thread https://twitter.com/GHSMaths/status/757688653795758080 from this fun twitter thread https://twitter.com/GHSMaths/status/757688653795758080

Martin made some paper models of the vase, and I tried it out, too, then explored other ways of decorating, folding and cutting this shape.

Quadrilaterals, decorated Quadrilaterals, decorated

With Martin’s help I made this template for folding:

I kept getting stuck . I liked much of what was happening but was never quite satisfied with what I came up with.

Recently I decided to revisit this shape again. I questioned the materials I was using,  decided to work in a 11″ x 17″ format, started looking more at what the shapes wanted to do than trying to impose my own thoughts on to them.

What’s notable about this shape is that it has an irregularity to it that does not let it…

Fotógrafa capta a beleza e a diversidade das folhas no outono

HI BEAUTIES! TODAY WE’VE GOT SOME GORGEOUS SHOTS MADE BY CAROLA. CHEERS!

VIVIMETALIUN

Not Knowing What to Blog

HI SISTERS! TODAY WE’VE GOT A SIMPLE SKETCH BUT FULL OF TENDERNESS. HAPPY SATURDAY!

Busy Bee

Aghh!

I know, I know, I didn’t post this morning, and I have been for the last few days so I’ve let the blog down, but I couldn’t think what to post And I hate HATE posting about something I don’t really want to, just so there is A post there to read. Because what’s the point in putting up a blog post just for the sake of having something published?

Well, I had no ideas to write down. I bought and thought and thought, but I couldn’t come up with a single post idea, so that’s where we are now. But I think that’s ok, and there shouldn’t be any pressure to have to post all the time, just to keep people interested. It should be about what the blogger wants to write, and when, about whatever they’re interested in, not just writing loads of posts so you don’t…

Irish Crochet Motif – Spike Leaf Flower

• Leaf: Silver in silk fingering wt with #6 hook and green in Finca No. 12 with #7 hook.
• Flower: Silver in silk fingering wt and purple in Aunt Lydia’s Fashion No. 3. I used a #6 hook.
• Vine: Silver in silk fingering wt. I used a #6 hook.

I designed this motif to pair with the “Sunflower” pattern by Natalia Kornonova, available here: http://www.outstandingcrochet.com/sunflower-crochet-motif-pattern

The spear edge created by clusters and picots is reminiscent of ranunculus and the Helleborus niger (Peppermint Ice) with its serrated edge leaf.

Printer Friendly Pattern:
