Ask the artist – 10 questions with Geraldine Montgomerie

👄WELL SISTERS, IT’S TIME FOR GENUINE AND FUNNY ART BY GERALDINE👅

Ask the artist

Who are you and what do you make or do? My name is Geraldine Montgomerie and I am a drawing magpie.

Where might we have come across your work before? As a member of the Leeds ‘Sketch That’ drawing club I make an appearance at the annual show and the Leeds Love Arts Festival. I have been a band’s artist from London’s No Cars to Cardiff’s Radstewart. I also make and contribute to fanzines.

Geraldine Montgomerie 5

What is your usual starting point when making work? I generally sit down in a comfy spot with some crisp white card, a heavy book (to lean on), some Uniball needle eye pens and a visual reference point. This might be images from an online search engine, my own photos or another artist’s work.

Who or what are your main influences? I take a lot of drawing tips from comic artists. I love the fearless use…

new painting } the eves and thilo

HELLO LOVELIES ! I ALWAYS LOVED THE MULTIPLE PORTRAITS LIKE THIS LARGE WORK THAT I COPIED SOME YEARS AGO AFTER REMBRANDT

tate30 The Eves & Thilo, 2016, acrylic on canvas, 150 x 240 cm

I finished this painting around ten days ago, and instead of photographing myself with it as I usually do with my finished paintings, I wanted to share that fun with a few of the special women in my life. Thanks to my sister Yasmine for thinking about asking her colleague photographer Thilo Mayer to take the pictures, which he so generously did. It was so spontaneous, and what was going to be an afternoon of fun with my girlfriends turned into an afternoon of fun with my girlfriends and Thilo! Oh, and Eve, who is currently staying with Fatma Bodoma, but I’ll leave that for another post.

Fabulous Fare Sisters

Bundle Wrapped Pear Salad

With all the business of the Christmas Holiday I’ve been engaged with so many activities that cooking has not been a priority. Therefore, today I’ll be revisiting a simple salad that I make for Christmas every year. I hope you enjoy it again…next time I’m making it with fresh apricots and brie wrapped in bacon or pancetta…

Painting of the Round Things Bento.

😛WELL LOVELIES, TODAY ARTISTS ARE A LITTLE HUNGRY. ENJOY YOUR MEAL!

Dayna Bordage Art

Round Things Bento (September 22nd Bento), Oct. 2014, watercolour on paper

This was from a week that I did some shaped-themed Bentos for Poppy. This one had strawberry Mochi (2 of them), pretzel mix ‘o’s, hard-boiled egg slices with seasoning, edamame, blueberries, grape halves, and a Babybel cheese. I like both the burgundy and blue Bento Boxes that I have (technically the burgundy one is Poppy’s), but it seems to me that the blue Bento Box looks prettier with food. Maybe it is the contrast I like.

#Inktober – Day 21 – Drain

🔎🔎🔎HELLO DEARS! IF YOU ENLARGE THIS PICTURE, YOU WILL SEE THE STROKES OF THIS WONDERFUL WORK THAT COULD SEEM A PHOTOGRAPH😉

Sketching On The Train

Today’s official Inktober prompt is Drain. Do you find social media a drain? I do sometimes. Its great but the constant scrolling sucks you in and you can waste your life away really quickly! I enjoyed the painterly effect from Fridays effort so I thought I’d see how it would apply to a portrait. Its okay I suppose but I really need to have some practice drawing hands. I seem to have regressed!

Materials used:

  • Seawhite of Brighton A5 ringbound Sketchbook, 150gsm
  • Twsbi Vac700R fountain pen (with custom xxxf nib)
  • de Atramentis black document ink
  • Twsbi Go fountain pen (ef nib)
  • Pelikan 4001 Brilliant black ink
  • Aquabrush with water inside
