Insanity

⛅ ☁⛅ 👀 WELL SISTERS, WHO HAS NEVER PLAYED DRAWING OR GUESSING WITH CLOUDS SHAPES ?

Running on Clouds

Indulge on broken moments
turned into forgotten fantasies, non existent memories
intoxicated by the lies brushed onto a numb mind;
addicted to this fever of pain
only left to be written away by reality, so cold
—swallow this gallery of poignant insanity.

Shapes

✏ WELL DEARS! AS YOU KNOW PENCIL IS THE KING OR THE QUEEN, WHEN WE TALK ABOUT SKETCHING.

Mattie Amatt

The idea of making bean pot shapes using this micaceous clay traditional to New Mexico has been making me uncomfortable; it feels too much like copying, taking something that has no relation to me. Although I think that the sharing of ideas and skills across borders is important I do believe that cultural appropriation is something to be careful of when taking inspiration from shapes or techniques that bear meaning to specific cultures or people. Moon jars, for example, are a pet hate of mine – I don’t think there’s anything wrong with making that particular shape, per se, but it bugs me when people use that form as a short cut to meanings and narratives.

With this in mind I have been researching cookware objects more rooted in a British tradition to base my g-bowl on. I’ve found digital museum collections invaluable for this, really enjoying browsing their archives…

Y’all, the Lord is doing WORK up in here!

fullsizeoutput_d41

Not that He’s not always busy concocting up some miracles & what not, but I’ve just been really feeling it lately.

fullsizeoutput_d48

It’s been a tough like….year and a half lawlz. My struggles are no greater than anyone else’s. Just normal life stuff. But occasionally I feel like a tyrannosaurus rex has sucker punched me in the jugular and I just need a few minutes to wallow.

fullsizeoutput_d46

Then, God, man. He just comes on in there and shakes me up a lil, tells me to get a grip & keep going. Like, He has surrounded me with the most abundant blessings. I have food, water, a roof over my head, clothes on my back, a hella sexy hunk that gets me, and fab friends and fam. Tbh, that’s way more than I deserve, so why I BE COMPLAININ’ ALL THE TIME?! Through…

Subzero Chili with Beans

🍴 😋 WELL DEARS, QUARANTINE CAN BE A GOOD TIME FOR REMEMBER AND SKETCH RECIPES.

katwritesfood

w17-1-11-chili-bean-02

Ice and snow and we lived on this in the studio….
Recipe, rough, approximate, because I rarely use a recipe…

  • 2 big onions, chopped
  • 1 lb ground round
  • 1 oz chili powder
  • tsp salt
  • tsp black pepper
  • tbsp cumin

Mind, you, I may add more spices, but the beef especially  is so good browned in spices….
So, start with the hamburger in a hot pan and all the spices, and brown
(you may have to use a bit of olive oil); when the beef is brown put it into a BIG pot.
Brown the onions after and drop into the pot.  Add:

  • 4 (though you may need a total of 6) 15-oz cans diced tomatoes
  • 4 tsp chopped garlic

Now here is an option, but not necessary.
Sometimes I add a couple of heaping tbsp of Blackened Hot Pepper Pesto
or add a couple of roasted poblanos or mild warm…

pineapple wall hanging

🍍🍍🍍WELL SISTERS, IN MY OPINION ART OF QUILT DESERVES BE IN MUSEUMS. I THINK THESE PINEAPPLES ARE ADORABLE.

skalabara quilts

Another UFO done! I had this wall hanging top at least 2 years, well hidden somewhere on the shelf. Because of the corona total lockdown in Spain, I have a lot of time for finishing my set aside projects. I would rather do without a corona pandemia, but we have to do the best out of the worst situation.

The quilt pattern is from Elizabeth Hartman – Pineapple Farm. I have made 2 mini quilts before. This wall hanging is for my sewing room. All pattern fabrics are by Kaffe Fassett collective. The background fabric is Kona Solid Eggshell.

Free motion quilted with meanders. I had to try out my new Bernina. A good project – not big and not too small.

The therapeutic quality of art-making

😷 HI SISTERS! WE CAN KEEP OUR PERSONAL STYLE, ALSO WEARING A MASK. WE SHOULD BE THANKFUL TO MEDICAL STAFF.

e daggar art: THE MUSEUM

When my office first announced that we would be transitioning to working from home, I imagined there would be so much extra time for things; I’d have time to write more here, time to make more art and perhaps complete a few projects that have been on hold. But it hasn’t really felt like that, despite that so many things that used to take up my time are off the menu for awhile.

Initially I found I could’t focus on being creative at all; I was overwhelmed and a bit frozen by the new reality. The only time I didn’t feel this way was when I was working; interacting over Slack and via audio meetings, etc, with my designers and co-workers.

Having work to do was and is really helpful; the opportunity to feel productive and useful, even in small way, is so good for one’s mental health, and I…

Amelia’s Magazine FASHION POSTS from LONDON FASHION WEEK A/W 2011: No.12 Amanda Wakeley

🎈 WELL SISTERS, A GREAT SKETCH IS ALWAYS CURRENT. ENJOY IT !

Hels writes

Amanda Wakeley LFW A/W 2011; Illustration by Gemma Milly

It was my last day at London Fashion Week. Still buzzing on the love of the razzamatazz, yet requiring an Americano and little slap in the face. How I longed for some Chanel Vuluminaire, Touche Eclat and M.A.C Ruby Woo, to aid me through the day with added oomph. The tools of the 18 hour wintery days. But alas I made do with my Revlon Fire and Ice coral lips and a snappy new fringe cut by Toni and Guy in the press area. Those with the manicured lives stood by me, and I hoped the power of osmosis would have my diary timetabled and my excitable eyes dulled slightly by the strength of being effortlessly chic. Nonchalence I fear, will only ever be mine when I am living in France, as an older woman. Then I will able to…

What about time? – Daily drawing – Week 11

🐯 WELL SUGARS! TODAY WE’VE GOT A WONDERFUL WORK: A TIGER OR TIGRESS, MADE BY SUZANNE THE ARTIST. CONGRATS!

Enviroart by Suzanne Bélair, IAF, AFC

Here are the drawings of the eleventh week of daily sketching:

Did you notice?

Surprisingly, the more confined we become, the less time I seem to have. How could this be? You would think that with all the time saved not having to drive anywhere for appointments (now handled through telephone) or exercise classes (three times a week through Zoom), time would magically multiply.

Part of the answer is that I learned to slow down a little without feeling too guilty. But also with all this time to reflect and be creative, new activities pop up. The morning walks are getting longer.  I read a lot. Actually, I read pretty much constantly. Everyday, we try to catch the 1 pm update from our prime minister, which triggers discussions as we sit for another hour drinking that second tea. Suddenly, you look at the clock and it’s time to…
