Chickens are a domestic subspecies of the red junglefowl (members of the pheasant family) that’s native to Asia.
I had wondered what that red thing is that’s on their heads so I looked it up. Turns out that red skin on top of a chicken or roosters head is called a comb. Roosters usually have larger combs than hens.
They can fly but because they are heavy they can only go about 60 meters that’s about 200 feet. So, they can fly just enough to make it over a fence.
Roosters perform a dance to impress the hens. This dance is called ‘tidbitting’ and roosters also do this dance to tell other chickens that they have found food.
