life-death-life

💀♻️ WELL SISTERS, MAYBE ALL OF US ARE READY FOR A NEW YEAR. BUT AS TAROT TELLS, DEPICTION OF DEATH ONLY MEANS A SORT OF CHANGE. I REALLY LOVE THIS REGENERATIVE METAPHOR.

drawing story

My 2nd art project,
‘life-death-life’ is a kind of prototype for my future projects, I would say.
The insights of yogic philosophy and the psyche of wild women* are met together and motivated through a small piano improvisation of Luciano Piana, one of my favourite componist and martial artist. There’s also the video from this project. Instagram “@einsiedler_sp”
*In narration, I quoted the phrases of Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estés, the writer of ‘women who run with the wolves’.
I won’t write here all these contents, but anyone who is inspired or touched by these wonderful truths, please read the book. 🙏
Thank you and I hope you enjoy.

💠 HI DEARS! AND CONGRATS TO JULIE FOR THIS WONDERFUL SKETCH. THE NEXT ARRIVAL OF A NEW YEAR, MAY BE A GOOD TIME TO CORRECT AND IMPROVE SOME IDEAS AND THOUGHTS.

lost in reverie

drawn with colored pencil and Procreate

I’ve witnessed my peers and girls at school scrutinize the fat on their bodies, criticize themselves for not being “disciplined” enough when it comes to their diet and exercise regime, and express guilt for indulging in what they and society deem as “unhealthy” foods.

Diet culture, as defined by a University of San Diego article, is:

“A set of beliefs that values thinness, appearance, and shape above health and wellbeing. Additionally, the concept places importance on restricting calories, normalizes negative self-talk, and labels certain foods as ‘good’ and ‘bad'”

It is alarming how pervasive diet culture is in modern society, how it has become ingrained in our daily rhetoric and thus internalized to dictate our self-perception. Thinness is glorified and synonymous with hard work, regardless of the unhealthy methods used to attain those ideals. Skipping meals, exercising to “burn off calories”, or…

Perseverance

💁‍♀️ HI DEARS! GREAT WORK BY JANE. OFTEN, FOR NEXT YEAR, WE ASK MORE VIRTUES, BUT REALLY IT IS PERSEVERANCE THAT COUNTS.

Jane Dickson Stairwell 1984 Etching

We have not wings, we cannot soar;
But we have feet to scale and climb
By slow degrees, by more and more,
The cloudy summits of our time.

The mighty pyramids of stone
That wedge-like cleave the desert airs,
When nearer seen and better known,
Are but gigantic flights of stairs.

The distant mountains, that uprear
Their solid bastions of the skies,
Are crossed by pathways that appear
As we to higher levels rise.

The heights by great men reached and kept
Were not attained by sudden flight,
But they, while their companions slept,
Were toiling upward in the night.

What she sees in it is perseverance.

Today’s Art (10th December 2021)

🌃 🕯️ 🌆🕯️ HI BEAUTIES! I LOVE THE LIGHTS OF THE NIGHTS OF DECEMBER, SO WELL REPRESENTED IN THIS WORK.

PekoeBlaze - the official blog

To my delight, I was feeling a bit more inspired and ended up making this “retro sci-fi” style digitally-edited painting.

As usual, this painting is released under a Creative Commons BY-NC-ND licence.

Nestled in Winter

👁️ WELL DARLINGS, MOTHER NATURE ALWAYS IS GIVING US REASONS TO BE INSPIRED, AND SISTER HEATHER SEIZED THE OPPORTUNITY.

Heather Telford

Although I see the beautiful contrast of foliage and snow outside I am not seeing many birds on the feeder right now. Instead I have placed a very cute robin in amongst the wintery Christmas foliage of an art journal page.

This isn’t just any art journal page; this spread is in a new journal I have been using for the last few months as I schemed and dreamed up a new in-person class for 2022. It isn’t just a class it’s an Art Journal Adventure.

To create this double page spread in the Dina Wakley 6″x6″ mixed media journal I used acrylic paints, distress spray and some ‘easy to find around the home’ texture tools. All the die cuts are from Penny Black and are listed below.

To keep things within an acceptable level of fiddliness I die cut all the foliage from coloured cardstock and painted only…

Last Market of the Season

⚓ WELL DARLINGS, I LOVE THE BEAUTY OF JELLYFISHES, AND HERE IS A FABULOUS DEPICTION OF THIS MYSTERIOUS ANIMAL.

Under A Topaz Sky

It’s been a very busy and full-on weekend at Normanby Hall Christmas Market, my last one of the season!

It was somewhat of a mixed bag but I did sell a few of my stitched pieces. They take so long to sell that I do feel quite lost when they actually go! One of the first sales on Saturday was this underwater themed locket:

I also sold the midsummer garden brooch I stitched back in January:

And this beaded brooch I made back in 2018 which was originally an enamelled 1980s earring:

It was far too cold to stitch on Saturday but Sunday was warmer and quieter and I got a little bit of another Bayeux Stitch project done, but not much. It’s also quite gloomy inside the stall at this time of year which doesn’t help stitch placement!

However, I have finished the jelly fish. Thank you all so…
