How to remain youthful in life: a spoof ad

😉 SURE, SISTERS. SPONTANEITY IS VERY USEFUL TO GET MAGNIFICENT SKETCHES.

Melinda Yeoh

On a whim, I made this spoof advertisement based on any skincare on earth claiming that it’ll give us forever youthful skin.

Chuckling and smiling to myself, I sketched out the real ingredients to remain youthful in life instead. Have you noticed how young and alive a person can be, no matter their age, when they have that sense of wonder in them?

Never lose your sense of wonder.

Acrylic and ink painting of a secret garden

👁️‍🗨️ HI DARLINGS! OBSERVING THIS VIDEO IS BETTER THAN MY COMMENT

e daggar art: THE MUSEUM

video still of a painting in progress, viewed from above

I’ve been filming myself painting and drawing a lot lately. It’s fun! This one turned out surprisingly well, considering I was working with no sketch, just eyeballing it as I checked my photo reference.

As it happens, I did manage to get the proportions of the pond wrong, but I think you’d never know if you didn’t see the photograph I used. The photo is one I took on my trip to Spain and Portugal—now almost two years ago. I really miss traveling!

So here is a little time lapse to take you to a shady secret garden in Gerona, Spain. We came across this garden at the old St Pere monastery while en route to the old medieval wall. Fun fact: they filmed scenes for Game of Thrones in this small medieval town to serve as Braavos in season six.

I plan to make more time lapse and maybe…

✒️ 🐑 HI SUGARS! YOU SEE HOW A SKETCH CAN BE A WONDERFUL WORK. THE LINES MAKE THE ‘MIRACLE’.

Sharpie in Ink Only Journal Sharpie in Ink Only Journal

Sometimes a sketch just comes at you in a surprising way. My Mom posted this sweet photo of a newly born lamb, and I immediately thought–so cute I want to draw him! And now, because I am drawing so much, all my supplies are readily at hand. I picked up my ink only journal and a sharpie and did the sketch. What a joy, fun and quick. A happy drawing. I think that is a good goal, to draw as many subjects as I can that really make me happy.

Inspired by one of the #sketchbookskool email assignments I decided to get a Strathmore tinted paper book. The first couple of pages are just experimenting with different mediums to see what works best. I have discovered that that oil based white sharpie I bought has some limitations–the paper just sucks it in, so it really…

Bunny Town

✏️🐰🖌️ SO TRUE, DEARS. BUNNIES ALSO CAN BE A FINE MOTIF.

brown fountain pen and watercolor in Travelogue sketchbook

Langley on Whidbey Island is a pretty little North Puget Sound town with colorful buildings, views of the snow covered Cascades and the art/restaurant/shopping scene tourists like. But my favorite was the omnipresence of bunnies cavorting everywhere like they own the place! And not just the little brown bunnies that populate our lawns now in Olympia, but a smattering of other breeds of different sizes and colors and fur types. Like these above. And the story goes that the 4H’ers had a show in town and somehow the bunnies got loose and did what bunnies to so well to populate the town with their offspring. Reminded me of the bunnies we raised when my boys were little. I’ve forgotten their names but remember the soft twitchy trembly-ness of holding them on your lap.

From Whidbey we took the half hour ferry back…
