My friends are getting married in May, and I decided to make the dress I’ll wear to it. With a couple months until the big day, I ended up buying a dress form from a friend (great timing!). I’ve wanted one for a long time, and after posting my desire to purchase one on Facebook, my friend said she was selling hers. I got it along with some fabric and felt inspired.

Inuit Fashion Show

🤰🏻🐧HI SISTERS! THIS POST IS A TRIBUTE TO THAT GARMENT CALLED BLANKET AND TO THE INUIT (OR ESKIMO) CULTURE. THE DRAWING OF THE PREGNANT WOMAN WITH TATTOOS IS ADORABLE.

What Next?

caribou-outfits

Did you know that traditional Inuit parkas were constructed in a way that corresponded to the parts of a caribou?  The hoods and hats were made from the skin on a caribou’s head.  The hide from the torso was used for sewing pants and the jacket. Fur from the caribou’s legs became mittens, socks and boots.  Caribou outfits have two layers. On the inner layer the fur faces in and on the outer layer it faces out.

During the exhibit Our Land at the Winnipeg Art Gallery I was introduced to many fashion items that illustrated the artistic talents of their designers and creators.

Lime – Aid

🟢 🎬 HELLO BEAUTIES! THIS POST FROM OUR FRIEND DIEVCA CONTINUES WITH THE “GREEN” OF JULIE’S ROOM. THE VIDEO ON A THEME OF BURT BACHARACH IS VERY FUNNY.

dievca

On the flight to Los Angeles, dievca picked up a Financial Times and there was a great Sunday Style insert.  she’s been disappointed with Fashion Reporting in the recent past, except for Harper’s Bazaar.  It was a treat that the FT did not disappoint either.

A small blurb showed some Lime-Colored offerings for the new season:

This Lime agenda was pushed forward after admiring Dionne Warwick singing Burt Bacharach:

Since dievca should be saving her pennies –  she shopped her apartment:

Not glamorous, but some Lime-Aid.

Sleeping with the Lights On

🟩 🛏️ CLOTHES AND GARMENTS, THROUGHOUT HISTORY, HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A REASON FOR INSPIRATION FOR ARTISTS. GOOD WORK.

Julie Mellersh Art

This is a watercolor painting of my bedroom as I recall it from childhood. Before my brother was born, I had the room across from it, smaller, also decorated in green and cozy. I remembered looking up at the ceiling from my crib in this room and had no desire to move to the larger one across the hall. A new baby was was on the way, though, and the decision had been made for me. I was the older child and should be happy to get the bigger room, my parents thought. To help me adjust, I think, my grandparents gave me a double bed in the French provincial style especially made for little girls at the time. I also received a dresser. A fluffy rug was added to complete the picture. None of this impressed my five year old brain. It simply preferred the smaller room with its…

EVADING

🐠 HI SISTERS! MAYBE WE SHOULD PUT ON OUR BEST DRESS TO ACCOMPANY THESE PROFOUND WORDS.

THE PRODIGY OF IDEAS

In that space where the dimension of human fragility lives - which constitutes us deep inside - also resides the highest spiritual possibility of human living: the ability to be able to treat and look at the fragility that inhabits me and the other. Evading, or not being able to deal with, this aspect that is so fundamental in a relationship - that is, that of "fragility" - is the first passport for accessing the archipelagos of loneliness and failures... Always starting from oneself, from own fragility, weakness, from our lack of love. May all sorrows turn to dust, turn you to ashes. Let the fire burn them and turn into dust, all your pains. May the fire burn them, may the fire burn them and new flowers will arrive! Heal your pain, my daughter, with the heat of the sun and the cold of the moon. Sweeten your mornings…

French fancies: Cadolle

🇫🇷 HELLO SISTERS! IT’S TIME TO FRENCH UNDERWEAR’S ARTS

View from the Back

One of the many things France is famous for is lingerie, lots of lingerie. I’ve previously covered the reasonably-priced Etam, but today we’re going decidedly upmarket – just in time for Christmas.

One of the inventions to have made the lives of 20th and 21st century women easier is the modern bra, which replaced the stifling corset.

It was invented by a Frenchwoman, Herminie Cadolle. She went on to found Maison Cadolle, which is one of the top haute couture lingerie houses still making made-to-measure underwear.

The company, which has remained small and today has 15 employees, has been passed on from mother to daughter through six generations: Herminie, Marie, Marguerite, Alice and now Poupie and Patricia (pictured below).

How it all began

Cadolle is one of the few older French entrepreneurial families headed by a woman. Herminie Cadolle (1845 – 1926) was an exceptional woman and a feminist…

Wouldn’t It Be Fun…?

🌈 🖌️👗 HI SISTERS! OUR FRIEND JUDITH TEACHES HOW WE CAN WEAR ART & FASHION AT TIME.

Artistcoveries

Earlier this month, as part of Joy Ting’s “daily practice” with watercolor — Color Play: Watercolor — I did an overall “leaf doodle” design.  This is the sort of art project I have problems with, although I’m getting better. The idea, you can quickly see, is to cover the entire page with various leaves. I’ve also done similar projects using a variety of different flowers.

Although this looks like a simple project, it actually involves several different aspects of art:

  • At least some drawing skill is required. Even though the leaves or flowers aren’t meant to be too realistic, we need to have the ability to get the shapes approximately right.
  • We need some understanding of color schemes in order to create a pleasing piece.
  • We also need a little knowledge about the medium we’re using.

In addition, there are some design principles involved.

  • How do we lay-out all the…
