With the ongoing occurrence of huge hurricanes, floods, mudslides, earthquakes, possible nuclear war and more in both the US and worldwide it seems that the wrath of the Goddess has been awakened. I felt the need to revisit the Celtic Triple War Goddess, The Morrigan. One of Her aspects is Badb, which translates as “Hooded Crow” and “One Who Boils.” She signifies fury, rage and violence. She brings war, death, chaos but also enlightenment, life, and wisdom.

Faber Castell Color Pencils don’t layer very well. However, it’s been years since I worked with pencils seriously. I have only used Prismacolor pencils and they seemed softer, blended and layered easily. I need to buy some ASAP!!! This little study was fun.

Mezzo Couture

I thought I’d write a post about Marfy patterns in my stash in response to Becki, who asked me why I hadn’t posted anything about Marfy projects, since I have a page titled “Marfy” on my blog.

Well, I started a dress back at the end of August – Marfy 1313 – but then I got busy with DD1’s winter coat, thinking about blouses and mulling over the HepburnHepburn projects (sheath dress, crisp blouse and trench coat are on my list still waiting to be cut out).  And then I’ve been mulling over the Burda “Party through the Decades 2010” competition (which may or may not happen, but that’s a topic for another day).

But I thought I’d share my Marfy stash, since it only numbers about 10 designs so far.  You can tell me which you like and what you think I should tackle after (during?!)…

Water colour has transformed the black and white mandala. There are so many ways this could be done that sometimes it is hard to choose but this time, the colour palette and rendering of the single large flower behind the drawing was in my mind from the beginning …a carefree feeling of summer meadows.

In colour, it is much easier to see the dainty hoverflies. While mimicking the appearance of bees for self-protection, they are stingless. To give an idea of scale, the overall mandala is 8″ in diameter so the yellow centre with all the intricate details is less than 3″ across and the hoverfly is about 1/4″ long which is about full scale – although they do vary in size by species.

Here is Tom’s new sonnet for the colour version. Wonderful!

I can’t remember what normal sleep feels like

Dearest Someone

Over the past week or so I’ve been struggling to sleep again, I don’t think anything in particular has triggered this, I just keep waking in the early hours of the morning, having a little panic, a little reflection of life, I’ll lose the battle of fighting an overwhelming need to take a few minutes to pay attention to everything that I hate about myself and then slowly (somehow), I’ll drift back into a lovely, bad-dream-filled slumber. Then, of course, when morning hits I could quite happily stay in bed forever.

But, to be honest I’ve had a lot worse when it comes to my inability to sleep. 99% of the time I’ll have nightmares or weird dreams, it’s just the whole waking up and not being able to get back to sleep that really really really frustrates me.
